LONGVIEW BAPTIST
HISTORY
Longview Baptist Church (LBC) founded in 1883 is a vibrant, conservative, Southern Baptist church located in a large community in the eastern part of Pontotoc County. The church holds to a conservative biblical exposition of the Scripture based on its doctrinal confession found in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. The congregation loves to uplift Christ in worship through a robust traditional blend of music, where worship is displayed through the LBC Choir, the children’s choir, and its talented membership doing special music. LBC functions to carry out the Great Commission and Great Commandments through its ministerial context through a committee driven polity under the leadership of its Pastor and the Great Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ. LBC has a strong presence in its rural but growing community, and she serves cooperatively within the Pontotoc County Baptist Association, the Mississippi Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention. The church has a long history of striving to exalt the Savior, evangelize the lost, equip the saints, engage the world through missions, and possess a vibrant fellowship among the people within the community and church.
OUR LEADERSHIP
PASTOR - Dr. Philip Caples
Dr. Philip Caples joined the staff at LBC in April of 2025. He brings over 30 years of pastoral ministry to Longview along with over 15 years of teaching at the college and seminary level. He loves to be called Bro. Philip, and he loves to engage people both at church, community events, and through weekly within the Longview community. He preaches expositional sermons using a thematic approach as well as preaching through books of the Bible. The love of his life, Ms. Joann, is his faithful partner in the ministry. They have been married for over 40 years and served in ministry both in Mississippi and Louisiana. Philip and Joann have two children: Chris and Justin. They are grown and married. Chris is married to Megan Melton Caples, and they have three children: Hayden, Rylee, and Colton. Justin is married to Nicole Richmond Caples, and they have one child: Hannah. When Philip and Joann are not at Longview ministering within the community, you will find them at their family farm “By Grace Farms,” where they enjoy growing produce and raising registered Red Angus cattle with their family. Bro. Philip looks forward to getting to know and serve alongside you as a guest and member at Longview.

YOUTH PASTOR - Bro. Lee Plaxico
Lee Plaxico joined the staff at LBC in March 2024, following many years as a devoted member of the church. He is passionate about building meaningful relationships with students and walking alongside them as they grow in their faith through Christ. Lee and his wife, Morgan, live in the Longview community and are proud parents to three children: Daniel, Cannon, and Maggie. In his free time, Lee enjoys attending Ole Miss sporting events and spending time coaching and cheering on his kids in their athletic pursuits.
Children's Ministry
At LBC, our Children's Ministry exists to create a place where kids can experience the love of God in a fun, safe, and welcoming environment. We are committed to helping children understand who God is and how much He loves them through age-appropriate Bible lessons, interactive activities, and worship. Our dedicated volunteers are passionate about creating meaningful connections with each child, ensuring they feel valued and cared for every time they walk through our doors. We also believe that parents are the most important spiritual influence in their child's lives, which is why we strive to come alongside families as partners in faith. Whether it's through weekly programs, special events, or familty-centered activities, our goal is to equip parents and children to grow together in Christ. We want every child to leave our ministry knowing they are deeply loved by God, uniquely created for His purpose, and empowered to live boldly as followers of Jesus.
Youth Ministry
At LBC, our Youth Ministry is dedicated to empowering teenagers to discover and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ in a vibrant, supportive, and engaging environment. Our passionate team of leaders is committed to mentoring and building authentic relationships with each teen, helping them feel valued, understood, and equipped to navigate life's challenges with faith. We believe in partnering with families to support parents as the primary spiritual guides, offering resources, events, and opportunities like retreats, service projects, and family-focused activities to foster growth together in Christ.
Women on Mission
At LBC, our Women on Mission ministry is passionately devoted to inspiring and equipping women to live out their faith with purpose and impact. Through vibrant community, heartfelt prayer, and meaningful service, we seek to deepen each woman's relationship with Jesus Christ, fostering spiritual growth and authentic connections. Our dedicated leaders are committed to supporting women in their unique callings, empowering them to serve locally and globally while partnering with families and the church to spread God’s love through missions, outreach, and compassionate action.
Brotherhood
The brotherhood at Longview Baptist Church seeks to serve as an extension of the mission program of the church. The group is comprised of Christian men and boys who love the Lord and desire to serve Jesus and others within the community, state, and world carrying out the Great Commandments and the Great Commission. This group meets on the first Sunday morning at 7:00 a.m. of each month usually. They usually share a meal together along with hosting a speaker, who will challenge and motive its members to serve more passionately for Christ.
